Red Light Therapy for Athletes

Athletes train hard. Recovery is the bottleneck. Red light therapy for athletes in Miami is showing up in studios and gyms for a reason: it’s a low-effort, no-downtime tool that may support recovery between sessions. Here’s how it fits and where to find it.

Why athletes use red light

Athletes push volume and intensity. They need to recover fast enough to go again. Sleep, nutrition, and rest do the heavy lifting. Red light doesn’t replace them. It may support them. The idea: red and near-infrared light penetrate tissue and can affect how cells behave—energy production, inflammation, blood flow. Give cells the right light at the right dose, and recovery may get a nudge. Athletes use it after hard sessions to support muscle recovery, reduce soreness, and stay consistent.

When to do it

Most athletes do red light within an hour or two of training. Right after works. Later the same day works too. There’s no single “perfect” window—consistency matters more than nailing the exact minute. At our studio in Upper Buena Vista, athletes often do ARX or other strength work, then hop on the EnergyLounger for 20 minutes. Same visit. No second trip. That’s the appeal for athletes from Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne, Coral Gables, Pinecrest, Miami Beach, and Surfside: strength and recovery in one block.

How often

A common approach: 2–3 red light sessions per week, often stacked with your hardest training days. If you train five times a week, you might use it after key sessions. If you train three times, after each session works. The goal is sustainable. Don’t overthink it. Do it when it fits.

Full-body vs spot

Athletes sometimes use small panels for one area (e.g. a sore shoulder). For general recovery after a full-body session, full-body tends to be better. You’re covering the whole system. At Uplifted we use the EnergyLounger—a full-body bed with red and near-infrared LEDs—for about 20 minutes. Enough for meaningful exposure without overdoing it. Red light therapy for athletes in Miami often means full-body in a recovery studio. One session. Done.

Red light plus other recovery

Red light fits alongside sleep, nutrition, and other modalities. At our studio we offer red light on the EnergyLounger, ARX for strength, and Shiftwave for nervous-system recovery. Athletes can do ARX, then red light. Or red light, then Shiftwave. Or red light only. Having options under one roof makes it easier to show up. One trip to Upper Buena Vista. No driving from gym to spa to home. If you’re an athlete in Miami and want to add red light to your routine, check out our red light therapy page and our services. We’re at 5026 NE 2nd Ave #303.
